The tapering southern wedge of the subcontinent that gives India its distinct and unique shape, is surrounded by the Arabian sea in the west, the Bay of Bengal in the east and the Indian Ocean in the south. Major dynastic kingdoms reigned here from ancient times, leaving behind a fabulous heritage of over three millennia, wonderfully preserved and so vastly different from North India.
Some of the most historic and finest literary works, music and dance traditions came out of southern India. Ancient temple rituals still survive in this deeply religious region and can be seen in practice in the colossal temples, built centuries ago.
A long history of maritime trade brought foreign cultures and religions to the shores of southern India, all of which were assimilated over time giving rise to unique cuisine, architecture and religious practices in coastal areas.
Apart from incredible architectural wonders, the region has stunning natural beauty to offer the traveller, with its serene coastlines, backwaters and densely forested mountain ranges that are home to unique flora and fauna.
Here are just a few of the places Jasmine Trails would like to show you in South India. Click on the destination images below to know all about them.
