Some notes to the trip

Group size

Unlike most tour organizers we do not believe in jamming large numbers of travelers in a group. That defeats the purpose of ‘getting away’ for an enjoyable vacation. Our group size for this tour is 10 passengers only. This is the desirable number that we would like to operate the tour on. Incase less number of people sign up we can still operate the tour at a nominal supplement charge per person. This will be advised to you incase you have signed up so that you can decide if you would like to still travel.

Flights are not included in the cost. However, once the required number of participants confirm with a payment, we will be happy to book flights for all participants as a group. We are usually able to get better fares for a group. The fares fluctuate day to day, so we will inform you of the fare available and expect an immediate confirmation for a go-ahead to book the flights. All terms and conditions regarding cancellation policies and refunds will apply as per the airline rules.

You could book the flights on your own as well, however please take care to book the same flight as the group as the arrival transfer in Leh included in the tour cost is for a group and not individuals. If you prefer to arrive and leave on another flight, we can help you book separate transfers in Leh for you on extra payment.

Accommodation and meals

There are limited number of hotels and other accommodations in Ladakh but we do our best to book you in hotels and guesthouses which have charm and character. As all hotels require a money deposit to guarantee rooms we are sometimes unable to get the hotels mentioned in the itinerary. In such a situation, we book other hotels/camps/guesthouses similar in comfort and service standards. Most accommodation is very simple but clean. Meals which are included are healthy and sumptuous and are usually a mix of local cuisine and typical north Indian food and sometimes Chinese dishes as well. Outside Leh meals are likely to be vegetarian.

Unexpected changes to itinerary due to reasons outside our control

The weather in the region is unpredictable and it may rain or become quite cold suddenly. Please read the document on what to pack. Rains may cause roads to get flooded, which may hamper with the flow of the itinerary. These situations are not within our control, but we will try to make alternate arrangements where possible.

Therefore, any cost arising due to ‘Acts of God’ including landslides, road blockage, terrorist activities, political disturbances (strikes) etc or any such situation will be borne by the client directly on the spot.

Health Note

Ladakh is a high-altitude region and it is not uncommon for people to experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness on arrival. For this reason, we suggest clients consult their doctor before travel and if recommended, take ‘Diamox’ (or a similar medication) to help with the acclimatization process. We purposely arrange a complete day of rest for the first day of all tours and our guides and drivers are well equipped to handle altitude related emergencies throughout the tour.

Most other standard medications are available in the main town of Leh, but if you prefer your own trusted brands or if you have any specific prescriptions please bring these with you for your Ladakh holiday period.

Staying Connected

All pre-paid Indian SIM cards will not work in Ladakh and due to security restrictions, it is very difficult for outsiders to obtain a local SIM card. Postpaid services with BSNL, Airtel and Aircel will work but we suggest relying on internet-based services such as Skype, Viber, Whatsapp, Facebook or email to keep in touch.

Note: There is free WIFI in most hotels and there are plenty of internet cafes in the main bazaar but be aware that power failures occur frequently, and it is not uncommon for all satellite internet connections to be lost for up to a few days at a time.

The best time to vacation in Ladakh is between May and October. Days are usually nice and sunny, but the nights can be quite cool. It is unlikely clients will experience much rainfall, but they may get wet from snow at Khardong La or snowy areas whilst driving.

Customized private groups

If you and your family and friends would like to travel as a separate group we can arrange a private tour for you without other travelers signing up on it. Let us know and we will be happy to customize it for you.

Rafting extension

Although we would need atleast 6 participants for this, it is also possible to offer this to less number of people. However, this would mean joining other visitors to Ladakh for the rafting trip. This may require more time spent outside, as other guests will also be picked up from other hotels and be dropped back. If you are less than 6 people and still keen to do rafting, we will give you a fresh pricing.
